Cast of ABC's Prey

What the Viewers Say About Prey!

NEWS UPDATE: Beginning in January of 2000, the SCI FI CHANNEL AIRED PREY TWICE ON SUNDAY NIGHTS 8P and 11P EST and drew excellent Nielson ratings! It aired the reruns until July of 2000 when it premiered a new show Invisible Man starring Vincent Ventresca (Dr. Ed Tate in Prey). It is unknown when SciFi will air Prey next, however, Kat Stein (a Sci-Fi Channel spokesperson) told Marc Allan, a reporter for the Indianapolis Star News that, "the campaign has been noticed. Although it may not be feasible to resume the series, given that the stars have moved on, ''I think there has been some movement internally to give the Prey fans something . . . . While it may not be bringing back the series, or even a movie, I think there's a movement afoot. I can't go into the idea, because I don't know if it's going to happen, but maybe we can give something back to the fans that would satisfy them."

This website is dedicated to informing the public about ABC's science drama show "Prey", a midseason series starring Debra Messing, Adam Storke, Vincent Ventresca, Frankie Faison, and Larry Drake, which premiered in January '98 on Thursday nights at 8:00p opposite "Friends" and "Promised Land." In addition to the unfavorable time slot, the show was pre-empted several times because of the Winter Olympics and other events and put on hiatus from March 26 until June 11.

In spite of these obstacles, the show's impact on viewers has been nothing short of phenonmenal. The premise is innovative, the show absolutely captivating and fascinating. In 1998 shortly after the show aired in the U.S., Prey websites and Message Boards sprung up, and discussions about all aspects of the the show mushroomed across the nation and Canada. In 1999 Prey went international and has aired in thirty-two countries, attracting a large following of fans. Some countries are beginning to show re-runs.

In 1998 PREY viewers mounted an intensive campaign via telephone, snail-mail, e-mail, the media, and the internet to get ABC to show the last five of PREY's 13 finished episodes. They lobbied WB, Fox (perhaps introducing it in through an X-Files episode) and other networks to renew PREY.

As a result of the "We Are the Prey Campaign"," ABC decided to air the remaining five episodes of PREY starting Thursday, June 11, 1998 in the 9:00pm time slot.

The We Are the Prey Campaign has received coverage by the LA Times, on August 4th, 1998 and July 4th, 2000, journalist Brian Lowry, the Lafayette Journal and Courier, on July 3rd, 1998, journalist Joel McKinney, and July 13th, 2000, journalist John Norberg, and the Indianapolis Star, on August 8th, 2000, journalist Marc Allan, as well as by numerous on-line publications. In 1998 the campaign itself received an award from Viewers for Quality Television for its dedication, innovation, and well-organized approach.

Gina Evers, Prey's first coordinator for the We Are the Prey Campaign, says "PREY's future hangs in the numbers. In the highly competitive business that TV has become, the window of opportunity to let shows develop is much shorter than it was back when viewers had basically 3 choices in any given time period. Is that good? No, but it is reality...We will never have a better (or perhaps even another) chance to save this exceptional show which has captured our hearts, and given us a reason to watch TV!"

As part of many on-going campaign efforts,The We Are the Prey Campaign mailed packets to all publications, networks, and network affiliates in May of 1998. They also purchased ads in Variety magazine and sent a series of unique and thought-provoking weekly gift/reminders to network executives. In September of 1998 they made a sizable donation to Habitat for Humanity. They have also represented Prey at many Sci Fi conventions across the U.S. and Canada. In the spring of 2000 they launched a key campaign, mailing hundreds of keys to Bonnie Hammer of the SciFi station in a subtle hint to 'get Tom out of the cage.' In June the Prey For Us Campaign purchased yet another ad in Variety magazine inviting Peter Roth of WB and other Preymakers to a Prey minicon at Agamemcon 2000, in Burbank, CA. The show's creator William Schmidt and writer Larry Andries were special guests as well as fans who attended from all over the U.S., Canada, Germany, Slovakia, and the U.K! Currently the Prey for Us Campaign is conducting a postcard campaign - with the objective of sending in postcards from all over the world to Bonnie Hammer of the SciFi Station and Peter Roth and Len Goldstein of Warner Bros to show that Prey is an Internation Passion.
