What the Viewers Say about ABC's New Science Drama Prey
"Prey is an outstanding example of a show that touches both the heart and the mind. The topics raised by Prey are the issues we will all have to face in the future- genetic engineering, what it means to be human, what (if anything) makes one individual more 'desirable' genetically and how we will integrate with each other as our world connects more closely. On the other level, we see Tom making that most basic of journeys to discover who he is and what direction he wants to take in life. Far and away the best show this season."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"The ideas presented in Prey have intrigued me."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'We too love Prey. I've spent the last three days trying to get hooked up to the Internet just so that I could see what others think of this fantastic program. I'm a TV addict, but ever since getting hooked on Prey, all other shows have been put on the back burner. I would PAY to watch this show!!! I just love the interactions between "Sloan" and "Tom", and the exploration of human emotions between them. I like having to think about things, and ponder the possibilities of science, rather than sit back and mindlessly watch sitcoms or other peoples' silly home videos.'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I have just recently got on the internet and started checking out message boards just because of PREY. I am started taping episodes that I would have missed due to other commitments, something I have never done. I only get a chance to see a few hours a week and follow on a loose base about 4 shows a week. I really hope that all these messages to ABC get through to them how many fans it really does have."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"This show represents a journey all of us take in our lives. It's a great example of moral and social issues we struggle with daily. It's a great sounding board for discussions with my family (esp the kids). I can't say that about most of the shows on TV now. My kids certainly get a twisted view of life from the situations shown on the sitcoms. Prey is thought provoking and the best show by far on TV."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey for me is one of the best Sci-Fi shows to come along in a long time. It combines all the right elements, thought-provoking story lines, great casting and fans on the internet sharing ideas about the show."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Absolutely hooked! I missed the first three episodes because of the poor advertising for this show, but when I finally found it --- it hooked me in just 5 minutes. This show has it all, intrigue, danger, conspiracy theories, scifi elements, and the hottest steaming romance to hit the screen since Scully met Mulder. Each episode slowly unveils the mystery surrounding the new species and its objectives, while leaving the audience with more questions than it answers. Its like reading a novel whose pages you cant turn fast enough."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey needs a new time slot and a chance to strut its stuff ABC. Not telecast hiatus."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey is better than x-files and its brethren. It's intelligent, sexy, gripping, keeps us on the edge of our seats, wanting more. What a concept! A new species that looks human but is more evolved. The actors are remarkable. Tom and Sloan have that component missing from the relationship between Mulder and Scully- emotion. I watched all eps even though Prey and the viewers got jerked around remorselessly. Even began telling my friends about it, only to be embarrassed when ABC pulled it off air. Prey needs a chance and a good home where someone really has faith in it."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I love PREY and I am going to fight to keep it on the air. It is such a wonderful show and its deserves a chance to get an audience. it is like nothing else I have seen on TV, the in the lines of Sci-fi. The characters are so wonderfully diverse and exciting."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"If you love PREY visit the "We are the PREY" web site at: http:\\home.att.net/~mysfyt/prey.htm)... Prey for us."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"When I first started watching Prey, I barely noticed the other characters. But SLOAN, I noticed right away. She was everything I identified with- intelligent, warm, colourful, feeling, impulsive, gutsy, headstrong, curious, intense, sensitive and grownup. She was a scientist, so rare in TV. And she was willing to risk herself for her beliefs. Debra Messing makes me BELIEVE in the character. I believe all those things about her. She's never dull and she has a great heart, yet all things scientific intrude because they fascinate so much. Sloan is her own woman from the moment we meet her. Messing is so great, not only to look at but to sympathise with. It's all there in those luminous eyes, and her great acting choices. She reacts like you or I would react. I believe her fear, her terror. I cheer on her energy and fervour. A true thinking man's crumpet. And as an actor, I think Ms. Messing is outstanding. She keeps me coming back for more."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Thanks for letting us know you will be airing the remaining episodes of Prey. I signed up on AOL just for the sake of Prey. It is a thought-provoking, intriguing, wonderful show that deserves a chance. I have told friends, co-workers, family, and neighbors about it, and now everyone is hooked. I have all but the first three episodes on tape, and watch them repeatedly. I loaned my tape to my neighbors, and they watched the whole five episodes straight through, and loved them! I work with research scientists, who also have been enjoying the show, and now even my parents watch it!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"WE WANT THIS SHOW!!!!!!!Also, please show repeats this summer!! Thank you!!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"The people who watch X-files, Buffy, Star Trek have fallen in love with this show. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL PREY!!!!!!!!!!!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"This is the first time I have taped episodes of a show and watched them over and over again. I can't say enough good things about the actors and acting in this show. What a gem Adam Storke is and also Debra Messing. And of course Larry Drake has already won an Emmy for his role in another show. Please bring this show back a.s.a.p., show reruns if we must wait until Summer and renew the show."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Thank you (ABC) for letting us know the rest of the unaired episodes will be aired. As for closing this board, well we do not wish to 'wrap up' our conversations just yet. So I intend to continue them on Tiffany's board, the 11 websites dedicated to Prey, its fanfiction site, and its two mailinglists. And, as a Star Trek fan who grew up with Capt. Kirk, not Picard, I am used to continuing such conversations long after the networks have 'wrapped' it all up. Thank you so very much for putting Prey on the air, and getting this conversation started. We will gladly take it from here --- and see where it goes. We are the Prey, website address: http://home.att.net/~mysfyt/prey.htm see yall there."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'Well, this is a first for me, so pay attention ABC you are about to get an opinion from the depths of the "silent" majority! I guess the real question should be, was "Prey" just a filler for you, because you never gave this show a hope of attracting a decent following.. putting it on just as the Winter Olympics were to invade TV-land, skipping weeks, pre-empting without any warning & please for that sad effort that replaced Prey last night with Americas Funniest- you would think that a major network would be embarrassed to air such an amateurish production. I switched the TV off for the night. I would add to the previous reminder, that X-Files was almost canceled, remember that "other" almost canceled show..Star Trek!! Television programming has been dismal for some time, and this show was very refreshing. I think you are making a serious error in judgment if you take this show off the air. (And I will never forgive you!)'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"In my opinion, this show is in a class by it self, so much more intelligently written and well acted then anything else out there and cannot be compared to any others..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    "KEEP PREY ON THE AIR!!!!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'And thanks for the info on "Rough Riders". I haven't seen it anywhere but will keep an eye out for it .... 10 minutes of AS is better than nothing. (Boy do I sound like I'm losing it here .... )'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I don't often get involved in TV shows enough to try and save them, but Prey is worth it. A slow starter perhaps, (what can you do without being promoted), it has a lot of potential. Perhaps the execs will eventually see the gold mine they are looking for."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Best part: Tom and Sloan's relationship. I loved Beauty and the Beast. But this is superior to it. Their relationship is so mature, so intelligent, so romantic. Tom and Sloan treat each other as equals and the characters are balanced in terms of who takes the lead in any venture. They really do cooperate, co-exist. He was sent to kill her but is attracted to her world, to that emotional vein within him. Can their relationship evolve?

So many questions. Not only about the implications of science fact but also of emotions. What does it mean to be human?"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"ABC- please do not cancel the Show. You have the makings of a show that can eclipse the X-files. Don't let it slip away. This show has something for everyone: action, romance, intrigue, great actors and actresses, and most of all one of the most imaginative and creative story lines. My whole family likes to watch it. And we do buy from the sponsors of the show."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I also support sponsors of PREY and have made them aware of that fact with "thank you" letters. I also want to thank ABC for putting PREY on television, giving us a glimpse of quality programming. Don't make all PREY fans suffer because of poor ratings - due to the time slot, NOT the quality of the show."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I've watched x-files since day one. I would throw over x-files in a moment if it meant keeping this show. I've also watched all the Trek shows, Millennium, Alien Nation, Babylon5, Profiler, Pretender and I think that Prey is the best of the bunch. If I had to sacrifice all these shows to keep Prey on the air, I wouldn't bat an eyelash. It's intelligent, sexy, gripping, keeps me wondering and wanting more."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I can't remember having been as taken with any show I've ever watched. Never before would it have occurred to me to tape every single episode - and watch them repeatedly - and visit message boards, and Email other fans, and beg people to tape episodes for me (Ep. 8 was cruelly pre-empted in my area last week). I have told everyone who'll listen to WATCH THIS SHOW. So, I re-iterate, ABC, keep it on - it's a winner."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"PREY is unique! Prey really is a quality show that grabs audiences from the beginning."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"This show is accelerating my descent into my second childhood. Our local station pre-empted it, then announced they would show it at 1:06a. I stayed up and watched it, and I'm old enough to know better! But you know what? I wasn't disappointed!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Tom, you are an angel, and Sloan, you are my hero! I want to be just like you when I grow up!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"After the episode of the 19th our whole family is totally hooked (I was from the first one). Hope ABC sees what a gem this show is, and gives it the chance to grow that it deserves. Sloan and Tom...you GO guys:)!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"If they take it off I will surely NEVER watch anything on ABC again. Prey is too good to cancel."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey is the only thing I watch on Thursday nights anymore. I wouldn't miss it for nothing! Can't wait for the reruns so I can tape them!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"keep show on! must watch! can't turn channel!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I love science fiction shows and I agree that this is one of the best shows I have seen in a while."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I love this show. I have e-mailed ABC, I have called ABC and left message on their comment line. I also wrote letter to Warner Brothers. If you want to call ABC here is the number 310-557-6872 and press 4... Folks, we have to fight for this show. It is matter of existence of PREY."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    "Keep PREY coming to us."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey is intelligent, sexy, gripping, full of questions, keeps us guessing, keeps us on the edge of our seats, wanting more. Waiting, it seems endlessly, for the nest episode... Better than the x-files and all its brethren."

    ------------------------------------------------------------
"PREY'S premise is to play out what would happen if there were a new species of human who had evolved from global warming and then had to fight for ecological survival. Bent on dominance, looking completely human but with slightly superior intelligence, strength and senses they begin to multiply quickly. They're always looking for novel ways to overcome their human inferiors.

Sloan Parker is a warm, gutsy and obsessed bioanthropologist who discoveres the existence of these canny killers. Tom Daniels turns out to be a member of the new species who unlike the rest, has emotions and doesn't know how to deal with them. He ends up crossing the line to work with Sloan to stop the bad guys, at a great price.

PREY is intelligent, gripping, thoughtful, keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more. It raises more questions than it answers. Two weeks ago an unofficial PREY MB went up and had 500 responses by the end of one week."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"i think this is the most interesting and intelligent new show to come on in years - abc---- listen up and keep prey on the air-i usually could care less about whether a program stays on the air or not - but i got hooked on prey from the first ep. - so please plan on airing the next 5 and renewing it for next year."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'I quit watching "Friends" for this. Please keep this program!'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"This is one of the best shows to come along in a long time. It's just in a bad time slot. This type of show slowly builds a viewer base such as X-files did. But in only 8 EP's you can find web site's & Fan Clubs starting about the show. The interest is growing so give the show a chance."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I just wanted to add my voice to the other voices shouting, screaming, and sometimes whispering about their love for this fabulous show. It would be tragedy if this show were not given the chance to reach its full potential. Over the last five years I have been a faithful X-Files watcher, but let me tell you something. If X-Files and Prey ran opposite each other I would be watching and taping ABC..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I know our family would appreciate seeing all of the Prey episodes during summer re-runs. How about it ABC; run it during the summer in a decent time slot and see how it does. Give this fine show the chance it deserves!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Reruns of the whole season at a later time of day would be much appreciated by all who love the concept of this fine show. As you can see from the posts everyone wants to have copies of the show to watch over and over. I think they need to find some new nielsen families that watch thought provoking shows instead of all of these mind numbing comedies. Don't get me wrong I like to laugh and watch Mike and Drew every week."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"It would be great if all the episodes could be rerun during the summer. I missed taping the first couple of them and would like to add them to the rest."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"yes i believe in prey as do we al...this IS a potential MEGA MEGA HIT ABC!!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Questions: such as, why don't the new species want to co-exist, why don't they have emotions but can sense them, what was their culture like, how do they adapt, are they capable of love, can they evolve emotionally as well or is Tom the superior of the new species with that vein of emotion running through him? What is the one weapon that humans might have to fight the new species - could it be full focussed feeling? The battle seems to be at the electro-neurological level, perhaps electrical field meeting field."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'Prey is a unique television event- a thought provoking journey for the mind and the heart. As we follow the journey that Tom, played by actor Adam Storke, is taking towards self-discovery, we are part of the most ancient and basic of story lines. Through Tom, we examine the questions of who we are, what we stand for, and what our place is in society. The answers to these questions, and the journey we take to find them, are the core of the human experience. Prey also introduces us to emerging concerns with genetics, bioengineering, and social integration. What does it mean to be human now that we can alter our genetic structure? What makes us who we are? Who decides who survives in our society? What makes a trait or a person "desirable"? This last decade has opened the door to extraordinary advances in science, advances that often seem to leap past our ability to consider the ethical implications. Prey is presenting us with timely considerations that we will all have to struggle with in the future. Tom's partner in this journey is Dr. Sloan Parker, played by actress Debra Messing. Sloan provides a strong moral, intellectual, and emotional foundation for Tom. Her passion for life is a beacon for him as he journeys into the future. Guided by a keen intellect, a deep belief in the sanctity of life, and a steadfast faith in Tom, she takes on the challenge presented by the new species. Together, they attempt to insure a future for the human race...These exceptional actors, supported by a team of talented writers and technical crew members, have created truly outstanding television. In their efforts, they have produced that rarest of television experiences- a program that is worth an hour of our lifespans. Prey touches us on many levels and in doing so, enriches both our mind and our heart."

      ------------------------------------------------------------

"I'm ...desperately looking for copies of the first two episodes and am willing to pay whatever costs involved. Did not know I would become such a devoted fan until ep. 3. PLEASE ABC bring back this show soon. It has a great and original storyline and a wonder cast. Adam Storke is outstanding and Debra Messing and Larry Drake (?) are also excellent."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"last night had to be the worst in my TV life. Local station kept announcing and then watch Prey at 8.00. And what came on? That ridiculous show Am. Funniest videos. Please do not make us wait too long for the next ep. of Prey - if they are already made what is the point? Will there be reruns of the entire series - I HAVE to tape eps. 1 and 2 and at least more people could get an opportunity to watch this great show."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey was the only ABC show I watched. I had just started to tune into some other ABC shows, hoping to catch a commercial for Prey. That was the first exposure I'd had to your primetime lineup in a very long time...If and when Prey comes back, so will I."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"frankly I WANT MORE, This series is too good to just let go..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Thank you for going to be showing the remaining 5 episodes! But will your network be considering to place Prey on the fall lineup of your shows? Please keep all of us Prey fans in mind and realize how much this show is loved by your ABC public! It is us fans of ABC that will keep your ratings hanging in there-please remember us!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"... ABC has a real winner in this show-you folks just have to realize this and give it a chance! I've been asking friends and co-workers to watch the show and they have, but only got to watch one or two episodes. They all told me how much they liked the show, but then you take it off the air before anyone else can get a chance to watch it! Please think about putting this back on the air permanently-from a VERY DEVOTED PREY FAN!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Thanks for a great show. Hope that ABC can see it's way clear to picking up this suspenseful and intriguing show. I plan to contact all the sponsors from the last show that I still have on tape. I want them to know that this is a good place to spend their ad dollars."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I think it is important that we thank you (ABC) for creating the show in the first place. It was wonderfully written, acted and really brought us into the storyline right from the beginning. Thank you in advance for showing the final episodes. Hopefully you will rerun the whole series so those of us that want to tape it for future discussions on other message boards, fan fiction etc., will be able to. Someone else said that new shows don't really get a chance to grow anymore, which is definitely true in this case. When you first moved and then canceled Nothing Sacred (another great show) you seemed to just have parachuted in Prey. Lucky for us I guess."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I think if you (ABC) had given it (Prey) some ads, consistent time slot, you would have seen a great deal of fan growth. You really should check out the other message boards - they are really quite something. You are making a mistake."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Thank you for at least having an open enough mind to give the go-ahead on an innovative new show."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"The general population has had to adapt to a changing society like never before in our history. We're not as likely to be satisfied with being spoon fed on generic brands (or ideas). Look at this message board. The comments are insightful. Detailed. And direct! The devoted fans know what's right - and wrong - with the production of Prey. Every comment is intended to strengthen the show. Like close friends, you can count on them to help you improve on the rough areas in your life. Same here. The cast (as a WHOLE) has been welcomed in and touched a chord. Maybe, just because, they've been doing such a good job."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"...make available the tapes of the show. Put them on a GOOD grade of tape and offer them. I think you'd be surprised at how many will buy them."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"...There are very few shows that ever come on television with the potential that "Prey" has. This show could have become a phenomenon with the way it "hooks" people. Not only do you want to watch it but you want to watch it over and over again. What a lose for you and for "Prey's" many many fans. I hope another network has the intelligence and foresight to pick up this incredible show (unless ofcourse you change your mind and keep it which would make a lot of folks very happy)."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'...it is neat for me to see you cast Evolution itself as a character in this drama. To see you pull it off its scientific pedestal, and bring it down where we can mold it, play with it, manipulate it. To me, the series has the same morality as the Star Wars trilogy - pitting "the Force" against itself (the "dark side of the Force").'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"The premise stimulates lots of questions and discussion... What is the new species like? Where did they originate? What caused the mutation to happen? When did they first realize they were different? What circumstances isolated them from the rest of humanity so that their traits were passed on undiluted? What adaptations do they have that are different from ours? Which of those adaptations are superior? What is their agenda? How do they socialize their young? How do they learn? Do their brains do parallel rather than sequential processing, like a super computer? Do they have diversity like our species? Or are they all 'one nation', 'one language'? Where does God and faith fit in to all of this?"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"...great potential for compelling drama and poignancy. The new species has no history, it still is small in number, it came from human ancestors (may even still have living human relatives), survival has to be at the very top of its agenda. Hence the ability to reproduce rapidly (the females have 4 uteruses), and the training to prey on humans and possibly take their technology back home so they can get a jump start."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'...when you cast yourself as "prey" rather than predator, it kind of makes you look at the rest of the animals down the food chain differently. Maybe the series will awaken in humans some empathy for other species.'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey could stimulate interest in any number of fields like geology, anthropology, genetics, and paleontology."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Sloan, Tom, and Ed are very likable. They make you really care what happens to them. The friendship that takes place between Sloan, Tom, and Ed is touching. In the face of such terrible things happening, it's heartening that a friendship like this can take place...sort of like the real life friendship that took place between Tom Jeffords and Cochise, or between Jane Goodall and the primates she studied."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"...just wanted to let you know how intriguing this premise is. I really look forward to the series every Thursday night, and it's been a long time since a TV show has had that effect on me."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"There's just something about your show that resonates with me. The winter months are usually a pensive, and reflective time for me, a time for writing, and creating, and enjoying good stories. You certainly have filled need that well this winter. You put beautiful things up on the TV screen."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"This show really inspires people to respond and to create and to venture. The postings, the web sites are fantastic! This is the first time I've ever participated in a message board on the web, so I've learned a new skill because of this show. Also, the show inspired me to do my own creative writing in a collaborative project that my writers' group has been involved with this winter, as well as start on a novel I have long wanted to write."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I'm going to add my plea for ABC to renew this show in the fall. I want to know what Kewley's Comet is all about! Get those shows in production now!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"The delicate balance between a challenging intellectual pursuit and a touching emotional journey... is not easy (to achieve) and it is hard to define, but we all see it and feel it (in Prey)..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I am not involved with this show because I have nothing else to do with my time. This show moves me deeply, plain and simple. This show is unique, it doesn't need retooling, it doesn't need new actors and it doesn't need to be bounced around like an unwelcome relative. What it needs is the vision to see the uniqueness and the willingness and guts to back that unique vision..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Intelligent, sexy, gripping. I couldn't wait for the next ep. Told all my friends about it. Tom and Sloan are the Hottest couple ever! And that creepy new species- what are they really up to? Better than x-files."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'Well Well Well, I found fellow prey fans here! I sure do miss all the discussion about my favorite show. I'm just hoping ABC figures out what's what and realizes that they are making a mistake. Maybe another network will pick up the show and give it the chance it deserves to be a hit. Like, advertising when it's on? Promoting new episodes? A really great time slot? Hmmm... I'm really craving some "Prey", a glimpse of Adam Storke and Debra Messing (What Chemistry!) and maybe a glass of Ovaltine!'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"...Prey is like Christmas when I was a kid. I just count the days till it gets here. And, oh, how slowly they seem to go by."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Since ABC has removed the Prey message board, please visit the following site to post your concerns, etc. It has had well over 1000 posts! http://home.att.net/~mysfyt/prey.htm Thanks."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey is the only show that's ever been on TV where I've woken up in the morning exhilarated because it was Thursday and PREY WAS GOING TO BE ON!!!! Please, please, please, have mercy on us Prey fans: I'm praying for Prey!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I love this show - keep it on, ABC. ...This is the most intriguing and absorbing new TV show I've seen in ages, if ever, so please don't cancel it."
    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Couldn't agree more... Prey is intriguing and a fresh breath of air compared to its competition. Hope it stays around for quite a while."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I am so intrigued by this show. It has the best story line that I've seen in a long time. It has something for everyone, action, relationships, intelligent thinking. Please keep this on the air."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey" is the only network series I feel is "must see". I love the show and its cast! Keep it on ABC please!

    ----------------------------------------------------------

"This is the only show that I feel I NEED to see. I is the only show I record & save also. For some odd reason, I can watch it over & over again & it gets even more interesting each time. I have NEVER reacted to a show in this way. It would be a sad, sad thing to lose such a unique, intelligent & thought provoking show. PLEASE give it a chance to grow."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I enjoy the love story that is developing between Tom and Sloan. (Who wouldn't?) I graduated from... college in 1972, and immediately... took a position with a Christian Youth ministry in the Philadelphia inner city. Spent 3 and ½ years there. Lots of action and excitement. Talk about falling in love with the other species. Those inner city kids and I might as well have been the other species to one another. The distance, the problems, the barriers were that great. Took me six months just to understand the dialect and the accent. And we were all speaking English! But like the dandelions that poke up through the cement sidewalks of the concrete jungle, love still grew. I learned to love in that place. It was incredibly painful, and very human, like some of the scenes in this show...And, just maybe, could the love story have a happy ending? I guess I want one, because twenty-five years ago, I didn't really get one. It was very bittersweet. I'll be faithfully watching. I sure hope the cast, and the crew, and the writers get to see some of these letters. I want them to know how effective their work has been!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'It only took one episode to get me hooked. This is one of the best shows on this season. And believe me, I watch enough TV to know about this. I just want to know why ABC has it on Thursday nights (of all the nights in the week!!!), opposite "Friends". I am just asking that the show gets a relatively good time slot and a fair shot at acquiring more viewers. I've missed the first few episodes, so if anyone has them taped, let me know.'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"They must renew Prey. If they don't the whole balance of the cosmos will be put out of alignment and all hell will break loose. Prey must be in it's place on the air when Kewley's comet passes the earth in Oct. 98. The fate of the world is in your hand. Don't let us down."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

You guys have a goldmine here, with "Prey"...

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'I said it before but I'll say it again. "Prey" is the best show on television...Please don't let it become "extinct" now before it has a chance to pay off for you. What if Fox had canceled the X-Files? Personally, I think "Prey" is superior and they actually let their lead actors have a relationship! How wonderfully refreshing.'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I agree that Prey is the best show on television and if The XFiles could make it's creators and stars rich and famous there is no telling what Prey could do! The scripts are consistently outstanding and the acting is flawless. ABC had the intelligence to air this show to begin with. Lets hope they have the intelligence to stick with it !"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Prey" is the best show I have seen in a long time. It took me 5 min to get hooked on it. I got every ep on tape, and my puter room is a Prey Shrine. The actors are great, the writers are excellent...and it is just a good show...

    ------------------------------------------------------------

'...couldnt say it better myself guys. This show is great and I would hate to see it go. Just think, Tom and Sloan are the hottest most "dangerous" couple to hit the airwaves since Scully and Mulder. And this is supposed to be "it" for Xfiles. Many of my Preyfan friends are also Xphiles, like I am --- and we were looking forward to having Tom and Sloan around after Scully and Mulder took off for the big screen. Just think, if this show attracts Xphile fans, where it could be if given a chance to "get seen" by them in another timeslot? Give Prey a chance ABC.'

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I know this may sound pathetic, but Prey is the ONLY show I watch! I'm a poor college student with no TV, but Prey is enough incentive to beg around for someone to let me borrow theirs. I truly believe it is the best show on TV, and it would be such a waste to cancel it when the audience grows every thursday."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I'd buy the merchandise for Prey (t-shirts, etc.) is there was any to be had. Wake up and smell the potential $$ you could cash in on because of the show."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Come on, folks at ABC. It's not nice to offer cookies and then snatch them away. I'm hooked on PREY-please don't leave me dangling!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"ABC, it would be wise to let a potential "breadwinner" keep on going."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Just wanted to add my two cents. If ABC feels that there is not enough of a viewing audience, they can simply visit the Unofficial FanClub and see how many members it has acquired in less than 1 week..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Just had a thought when I was writing my letters. Why IS Tom so different? Why is he reacting differently or experiencing emotions differently than the other 1.6's? What is causing him to follow his heart and trust those unfamiliar feelings the emotions bring out of him? would any of us have taken the "plunge" into unknown territory to explore these feelings- knowing that we would be an outcast-in both worlds. He knows he's crossing the line and can't go back to the 1.6's but also knows he won't be accepted in Sloan's world. We don't do very well as humans sorting and acting on our emotions and feelings. We're often trying to hide them. but I'll bet Tom makes better sense of his emotions than we do for all the life long experience we've had with them. I think that's what makes him an outstanding character to me. I'd have to say he's superior to us in interpreting and acting upon his emotions. Just wondering!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Good questions... Tom has taken a step that basically leaves him as an alien "outside" looking in. He cant ever be human (as Ed pointed out), and yet he is no longer "one of them" (as Sloan stated). He is alone, except for her. In that respect he represents anyone who has ever felt left- out/alone...Why would he leave the superior race to help save the inferior one? Especially when that race will probably always see him --- and his progeny --- as a genetic threat? My guess, is that the 1.6ers are themselves still evolving. And Tom is truly the advanced species --- willing to coexist, not destroy. Other sp1.6ers will follow him, if they are really the "next step" in the right direction of our evolution. But first, Tom will have to discover just who species1.6 really is, by discovering the humanity inside himself."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Superior to us in interpreting and acting upon his emotions! Well said...I love that line. I have always felt the word "apart" is an intense word that underscores all of humanity. We want to be "A part" of each other or a group etc., yet even in our most intimate relationships we are always at the core "apart" in our own unique being. For all of that we do find that closeness of being "A part", and then we are willing to pay the price ..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Still haunted by Storkes elusive mysterious portrayal of Tom May I never find a cure!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"And the acting is so remarkable, especially Adam Storke, who never acts creepy, just slightly different from us. He is a revelation. There is some inner dialogue going on behind his eyes, always occupying his entire being."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I finally got to rewatch eps 1 and 2. Everyone, hope you get these eps. Really, really important. The first ep is SO intense. When you're looking back it has so much more meaning... Ann being Sloan's mentor- even the idea of a mentor was explored- and such foreshadowing.... Tom, in the first ep. is a killing machine-sort of- such conflict for him! And the chameleon aspect- so brilliant as agent Tom Daniels- and comforting Sloan after Ann's murder- stalking and chasing her (a truly chilling scene)- wiping the tear from her face, inquiring-torn-a state of readiness- ready to cross over Oh there was so much more but I'm too ecstatic to remember..."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    "...sublime!...Wonderful character development!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"But Tom's tenderness with Sloan during the kiss made me think he was using his empathic senses more like a biofeedback system. I think that is what Sloan has been teaching him to do. Get in touch with his own internal emotions and intermix them with what he feels coming from outside himself. In other words, she's teaching him to connect with his own humanity. That is one of the ironies about Tom. He is an empath, yet trained to be a killer. He'd have to really detach himself emotionally, in order to be able to kill and not experience his victims' fear/terror/death himself. Most empaths in science fiction are depicted as passive, vulnerable, creatures with healing powers. This "aggressive" empathic killer race is totally unique. I've never seen this twist on empaths before. Yet, the writers have pulled it off by having their empaths display repressed emotions. I find such a contrast quite refreshing and intriguing."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Two themes meandered through the ep. One was the question of abandonment. This is a big deal for Tom, that he not abandon Sloan. It's interesting to try to give an explanation of the reason which didn't use the word love. This runs through every ep I think. Explains why he went into Lewis' house to die with Sloan if necessary. I'm not even sure he has figured it out, but he seems to see things in terms of necessity. All he knows is that he cannot abandon Sloan. That, I think, is the deep feeling he has for Sloan. Because he is attached to her. And because he is ruled by necessity. The second theme that runs through several of the eps is the question of choice- when does one have no choice whatsoever(it's a necessity), and when does one have choice. Tom has more than once mentioned that in fighting the new species, one has no choice but to sacrifice and to kill if necessary because one must STOP them. He almost killed Lewis. Sloan stopped him from killing Lisa. (Ironically, in this ep it's Attwood who says those words- that Tom is a killer and that they must eliminate him, they have no choice.) And the crux of the ep is that Tom goes downstairs after the fairy kiss without Sloan to take care of Lewis. He must be stopped. Aims the gun at him, but CHOOSES NOT to pull the trigger. He realises at last that he has a choice. Even says so. Necessity need not drive him, at least not this time. (necessity as a drive- so 1.6). When he and Sloan hug and smile and walk off into the sunset, like great buddies, it's not because they're in love or can't keep their hands off each other but because they share the knowledge that Tom has discovered free will and made a choice not ruled by necessity. What a breakthrough. THAT is why the ending seems happy."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Emotions are necessary for survival in all mammals (Read DanGoleman's book Emotional Intelligence). Surely the new species has just as much, if not more, capacity for emotional intelligence than humans. Their powers of telepathy would indicate that. It's just that empathy is a luxury they can't afford right now. So they discourage it. Hence Tom's struggle with it. But if survival were not at the top of their agenda, how might Tom feel about studying our sciences or our medicine? Would competing in the Olympics appeal to him? Would he/they be touched by our art, our music, enjoy playing a musical instrument? Once they achieved dominance, how would they develop? What would they aspire to? What would their music and art and science and athletics be like? ...Yes, it is bad news if humans go the way of the dinosaurs. But wouldn't you hope that some of what is good about us, some of what is best about us is passed on to the next model?"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"The fun part is that we don't really know whether or not Tom killed his mother or whether it was an elaborate hallucination. This leaves it open for the writers to bring her back if they so choose. It also is curious that Tom is "blank" about his most recent time with Lewis. Maybe it will start coming back to him in flashbacks. Poor Tom. Just when he is trying to "reform" his old ways he remembers blowing "Mommie Dearest" to kingdom come. Doesn't seem quite fair so maybe they'll let her be alive and spare him the guilt."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I think it was his mother that he shot. If we don't see her again then she's dead. With this new species, who knows what to expect. She may have been wearing a vest or something. Anyway, I hope that she isn't dead that she comes back. I would also like to see Lisa return, but it looks like she is pretty much dead."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"I *HOPE* that was a hallucination. It would be more fun if she were still alive. Think of all the trouble she could cause.=)"

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Hi every one. Finally I was able to get on this MB. This is a great show. I love it. Hoping for next season earnestly. ABC keep it On. I agree with you...I think Tom's mom is still alive. She is beautiful, but emotionless. Just like other 1.6rs. However, she is still very important part of Tom's life. Seems like they need her to bring Tom back to their side."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"Tom Daniels feels emotions in himself and others, but he doesn't belong in the world he left behind nor in the human world. Sloan is teaching him what it means to be human. His purpose is to evolve emotionally and somehow straddle that bridge between old and new. Yet all the while he questions everything and remains firmly in the middle, an observer and reflector of humanity, and otherness."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"PREY is a thoughtful and thought-provoking drama so is a slow builder and it is serialised. After a couple of episodes it was pre-empted for the Olympics and has suffered from arbitrary pre-emption ever since, the last time for America's Funniest Videos. Then they yanked it from the air with 5 episodes left. Then ABC yanked its MB because the fans were USING it. And word about PREY had been spreading."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

"...those of us who love many-layered, challenging, humane, inspiring shows (I'm sick of bleakness), those of us who feel deeply disenfranchised and always have... (see that) PREY is a singular gem and deserves great and heartfelt support. It needs someone to have faith in it."
